Species self-regulation
I am currently working on detecting species self-regulation in community time series data. In theory, we should be able to detect negative density dependence of per capita growth rates in multi-species systems if a statistical model controls for resources, consumers, competitors and abiotic variables. However, data quality, nonlinear dynamics, and indirect effects could make it difficult to detect existing self-regulation or cause spurious effects to appear when self-regulation is non-existent. I am investigating both field data from a ciliate community and synthetic data from food-web simulations.

BayesFR package
I recently released the BayesFR package, which makes it easy to apply Bayesian inference to functional response data via brms. It comes with a detailed tutorial and numerous test cases. An accompanying methods paper is in preparation.
